Cards from Pakistan

The best preserved and most accesible of Cholistan's historic remains is the Fort Derawar, some 45 km south of Dera Nawab, near Bahawalpur. The fort was built by the Abbasi family in 1733 and still belong to the Amirs of Bahawalpur. Visible for many km, the fort has 40 enormous bastions, most of them largely intact, and stands more than 30 metres high with a circumferance of 1.5 km.

At 7.788 m, Rakaposhi is the 27th highest mountain in the world and 11th highest in Pakistan, but it is more popular for its beauty than its rank might suggest and is said to be one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. It soars magnificently in one continuous buttress from the Hunza River. Although located in Nagar, the best views are from Hunza side. Rakaposhi was first climbed in 1958 by a British-Pakistani expedition.
