Uusikaupunki (Nystad), Finland

Finland, Uusikaupunki, Distance - 2 017km, Sent - 14.02.14, Received - 24.02.14 /10 days/

This is a card by Kirsti from Nystad (Finnish: Uusikaupunki, both its Finnish and Swedish names means literally “new town”). It is a town and municipality of Finland, located in the Finland Proper region, at the western coast of Finland.

Kirsti wrote that it's an illustration by Rudolf Koivu /1890-1946/ - a Finnish illustrator and painter, best known for illustrating books for children.

Tove Jansson /1914-2001/ was a Finnish novelist, painter, illustrator and comic strip autor. Jansson is best known as the author of the Moomin books for children. They are a family of white, roundish fairy tale characters with large snouts that make them resemble hippopotamuses. The year 2014 is Tove Jansson’s 100th anniversary.

Thank you, Kirsti!
